Responsibilities:
- Ensures overall safety of waterfront, staff, and clients
- Day-to-day operations of the waterfront
- Scheduling supervisory rotation of Waterfront Senior Staff
- Providing feedback to staff
- Address concerns, queries, etc.
- Analysis of camper and guard behaviour to adjust rotations and positioning for increased safety of all parties
- Files and follows up on incident and near-miss forms
- Ensure all swim check and buddy check documentation is filed and stored at the waterfront and copies are available at the Main/Administration Office
- Coordinates Summer Waterfront set-up and takedown
- Ensure all paperwork of staff certifications are on file and stored at the waterfront and copies are available at the Main/Administration Office
- Coordinate staff appreciation events and manage budget
- Oversee and directly supervise all emergency procedures at the Waterfront
- Remain vigilant and act quickly in making rescues and aid
- Organize and implement training of waterfront staff
- Models positive behaviour and upholds Olympia values
- Ensure all staff adhere to policies and guidelines
- Evaluate employee performance and identify training needs
- Ensure all rescue, emergency, and first aid storage areas and equipment are clean and organized
- Ensure all motor propelled craft are in working order, full of fuel, contain necessary equipment
- Supervise Assistant Head of Waterfront, Head Guard, and Head of Small Crafts
- Actively supervise and motivate staff to perform their best
- Provide recognition and constructive feedback throughout shifts
- Fills in roles of guards when shortages occur
Job Requirements:
- Experience in a supervisory or management role
- Experience with Kids 8-17
- Lifeguarding experience in an outdoor or lake setting
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to lift weight of all necessary water crafts
- National Lifeguard-Pool (minimum) or National Lifeguard- Waterfront(asset)
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (Boating License) or willingness to obtain
- Minimum 1000 hours of on-job lifeguard experience (preferred)
- Clean Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check
- Red Cross Swim Instructor (or equivalent) considered an asset
- Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor considered an asset
- National Lifeguard Instructor or Examiner considered an asset
- G2 or G license (or international equivalent) preferred
