AERONAUTICS: LEARNING ABOUT FLIGHT

Aeronautics can be defined as the science involved with the research, study, designing, and manufacturing of machines or technologies that can take flight. Aeronautics also includes the techniques used in operating aircraft as well as rockets within the atmosphere. NASA scientists are huge advocates for the study of aeronautics. The term aeronautics was originally used to refer to the operation of aircraft, however, in recent years, it has evolved to include technical aspects, business aspects, and other aspects that are related to aircraft. The word aviation is normally used interchangeably with aeronautics. However, Aeronautics is a much broader term since it includes ballistic vehicles and airships which are part of the engaging program at Olympia.

Aeronautics is basically the science of flying contraptions or inventions. Examples of flying machines are airplanes, helicopters, drones, and blimps. The word aeronautics stems from an old Greek word that translates to “Air Navigating” in English. Another area in the field of aeronautics is Aerodynamics which is the science behind how the air moves and affects objects. Aeronautics activities inspire campers to learn more about the science of flight and have a broader understanding of flying machines. Campers learn and think mostly about basic physics with fun engaging activities when they partake in aeronautics.  Campers learn how to build rockets in teams while competing with other campers to see who comes first in aeronautics competitions.

With the rapid growth of the aviation and aerospace industry, it has been discovered that tremendous opportunities exist in this field for students today.  At Olympia, the aeronautics camp will help guide campers with a passion for flying machines on the path to someday becoming pilots or working at places like NASA or Canada’s Space Arm. STEM programs guide campers into discovering their future careers at a young age by partaking in various actives made in a fun simple way.

A recent research study shows that the aerospace industry is projected to take in more than 2 million employees over a period of the next 20 years which is why it is important for your son or daughter to be introduced to aeronautics in Olympia’s fun learning environment.
